Darlene Stoffer read a Social Report from Leslie Quento during the guest forum: Social: WOW! Another Social come and gone. So quickly too. Seems just like yesterday I was tearing my hair out getting ready for the Social and fretting about not having enough food and dessert donations or enough hot dogs and buns. Boy was I surprised! At the final second, here come our friends and neighbors with arms full of food. The day, not to mention my nerves, was saved by you all. Donations were too many to list here by name, so I wish to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for making this a successful Social. I do wish to name and thank Larry and Kevin Graves for their outstanding cooking abilities. They cooked over an open grill in the not sun almost 100 hot dogs! (And boy were they perfect too!) We made enough to put on the Annual Crab and Corn Feed in August. As of this date and time, I still do not have a definite date for the Crab Fee yet. It is still dependent on the Fisheries Department and the crabbing abilities of my volunteers in the short time we’ll be allotted. As of right now, the opening date is scheduled 3 days after the Social. Well that won’t work will it? So stay tuned and watch the LISE web page (or you can call me at 758-7011 or email me at lesonlummi@msn.com to find out the new date. Remember you CAN bring your friends and families to enjoy our feast. Where else can you get so much fresh food for such a low price? (And it’s for a good cause.) The Crab Fee in August is what really funds the big Christmas Party in December. So remember, bring your appetites and your friends, family, neighbors or the guy off the street and come have some good food and fun. I look forward to seeing you all in August! Natural Disaster – Submitted by Chair Frankie Small: As requested I contacted the District #11 Fire Commissioners with regards to the old fire hall #2 and maintenance shop being in dire need of painting. They decided at their meeting, to take no action at this time but to put the old fire truck [which is stored in this building] up for sale, when this is sold they would remove everything else and there fore return the building to LISE. This did not come to me in writing. Our agreement with them says they will do maintenance and pay flood tax, also that either the fire district or LISE can cancel this agreement with 180 days written notification. This is no surprise to me as it was talked about back in the 90's when the roof needed repair, I would suggest that we get something in writing from them so we could protect this building by painting before another winter sets in. Firewise
report: It appears that summer is finally here which means we must be more
diligent about lighting fires, there is no ban at this time but you should
be very careful even though we have had rain in this past week it has not
dampened the soil very deeply. Always have a hose handy and at the ready
for use to control spread, mainly it is the fire brands [ sparks ] that
are the concern so keep your fire small and controlled.
